International Day of the Girl Child
In 2011, the United Nations adopted Resolution 66/170 to designate 11 October as the International Day of the Girl Child, to recognise girls' rights and the different challenges girls face around the world.
'The world’s 1.1 billion girls are part of a large and vibrant global generation poised to take on the future. Yet the ambition for gender equality in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) highlights the preponderance of disadvantage and discrimination borne by girls everywhere on a daily basis. Only through explicit focus on collecting and analysing girl-focused, girl-relevant and sex-disaggregated data, and using these data to inform key policy and program decisions, can we adequately measure and understand the opportunities and challenges girls face, and identify and track progress towards solutions to their most pressing problems. International Day of the Girl in Monaco
2016 GenderHopes hosted the fundraising art exhibition "A Confident Girl" in Monaco. Renowned artists were invited to contribute a piece of their artwork on the theme "A Confident Girl". Over 30 pieces were created and publicly displayed at the Columbus Hotel for one month and a book featuring the artwork was available for sale.
2017 The Conseil National hosted a cocktail with SheCanHeCan to mark the official launch of SheCanHeCan under its new name.
A selection of girls aged 14-17 from Monaco schools visited the Conseil National and got a better understanding of the importance and role of women in politics.
2019 On 11 October 2019, SheCanHeCan along with the Conseil National of Monaco joined the #Girl2Leader campaign and invited 20 students, both male and female, to visit the Parliament and meet with female MPs to understand the importance and role of women in politics.
On 14 October 2019, SheCanHeCan also joined with The Red Box Project UK to bring free period products to students in Monaco. This project was started at the International School of Monaco and is lead by our team of student ambassadors there.
